My Recent Instagram PicsFun window at an antique store in ArezzoJust a few days ago yet a world apartLooking upriver and down from #pontevecchioIt's been 9 years since we've been to #florenceitaly They have cleaned most of the #florenceduomo and the transformation is stunning. As are the crowds. More pleasant was a revisit to #santacroce where Donatello, Michelangelo and other notable Renaissance figures are buried. We ran into our Arezzo friend #giorgiovasari who oversaw the Santa Croce Michelangelo memorial which has 3 female figures representing 3 of the arts - painting, sculpture and architecture. And Visario painted the fresco that you see them restoring. The yellow stuff on the picture of the woman cleaning is varnish that she is removing to bring back the beauty of the painting. Fun to see. Santa Croce is big, with cloisters, chapels, yards. Hard to believe that in 1966 a flood of the Arno river rose 30 feet into this building ruining much art.
